A baby camel has been taken from a camel sanctuary in Victoria’s north.

The six-week-old camel was allegedly taken from the Ardmona property earlier this week.

Owner Brian Fankhauser says it’s “distressing” and the mum and baby are both in trouble.

“The distressing part is camels are extremely connected in the emotional bond they have with their mother and quite often the mother will die when the child is taken early from them, simply from heartbreak,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“She’s very upset, she cries a lot.”

The owners of the baby camel are urging whoever took it to return it, no questions asked, or drop it off at a police station.
