A plea has been made for a car-free superblock model in the Melbourne CBD following “distressing” rise in pedestrian deaths.

41 pedestrians have lost their lives this year in Victoria, up 86 per cent from last year where 22 lives were lost.

“Figures like this should be distressing any government,” Harold Scruby, President of the Pedestrian Council told Dee Dee.

A range of different solutions such as lowering the speed limit and introducing a diagonal crossing at intersections were addressed.
