Plane that crashed 21 years ago sets off EPIRB in Point Cook RAAF museum

Authorities have tracked an emergency beacon down to Point Cook, only to discover the crash occurred more than 21 years ago.

As revealed on the Rumour File, the Australian Communications and Media Authority team that alerted to the EPIRB alarm found it in the RAAF museum (pictured above, via Google Maps).

Senior investigator Holly Buckle told Ross and John she was amazed at the longevity of the batteries in the device.

“The batteries had corroded and that’s what set it off,” she said.

The crashed plane is in storage, with plans to restore it for display.
