Petrol station worker attacked with axe

A petrol station worker has been attacked with an axe in a terrifying armed robbery in Melbourne’s north-east overnight.

A group of five masked men stormed the BP service station on Rattray Road, Montmorency about 6.30 last night.

One of the men has produced an axe, hitting the staff member in the face.

The offenders stole cash and cigarettes before fleeing.

The staff member was treated for facial injuries.

Police are today calling on witnesses to come forward.
