Paul Marsh urges greater conversation around making player salaries public
AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh thinks publicly releasing AFL players’ salaries would land up driving player wages up.
The practise is commonplace in the USA, where NBA and NFL salaries are public but is still frowned upon in Australian sport.
He told Sportsday it was a decision for the players to make themselves.
“If you look at examples around the world where this has taken place, salaries escalate,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s necessarily coming but it’s something we should continue to talk about as an industry.
“It’s a conversation that’s only really getting started – there’s a view within in the clubs that we should release this information.”
