Almost 20 piers and jetties across Victoria have been fully or partially closed by Parks Victoria, with little prospect of some being re-opened any time soon.

Piers at Portsea, Sorrento, Rye and Dromana are among the 19 piers and jetties shut down.

Williamstown, Middle Brighton, Hampton and Black Rock have also been impacted.

Neil Mitchell said it was clear there had been a “huge failure” from Parks Victoria.

“They failed to maintain them, now they’re dangerous, and people are severely disrupted,” he said.

Alex Stroud, Commodore at Warneet Motor Yacht Club, couldn’t agree more.

“Parks Victoria assure us they do rigorous annual inspections,” he said.

“Through freedom of information we obtained documents to prove the last inspection was in 2010 and written up in 2011.”

Mr Stroud said the club had no idea when they’d be able to use the facilities again.

“There is no time line,” he said.

“Parks Victoria won’t return phone calls, the minister for fishing and boating won’t talk to us.”
