Households could soon lose control of their air conditioner thermostats with remote access by authorities to take place to cut down demand on the power grid.

Associate professor of renewable energy at Monash University Roger Dargaville says the measure isn’t as “arcane” as it appears.

“What we’re suggesting is a much simpler, much milder intervention,” he told Tony Moclair.
