‘Optimistic’ SES message on Shepparton flooding
The Goulburn River is currently at 12.05 metres, short of the 12.2 metre peak expected this morning.
SES Community and Communications Manager, Jamie Devenish, says he’s “optimistic that is the peak”.
“It’s not completely out of the woods that it’s not rising further but it is currently steady,” he told Ross and Russel.
“That short difference might have made a massive difference to a large number of people right across the Goulburn Valley.”
With more rain expected later this week, Mr Devenish urged Victorians to heed evacuation warnings.
“Please adhere to the warnings … if you’re in communities that are subject to an emergency warning to evacuate immediately, we don’t issue those lightly,” he said.

Mayor of Greater Shepparton, Shane Sali, says the stabilisation of the river level is a relief.
“It’s at a point where we’re reasonably comfortable,” he told Ross and Russel.
