Opposition leader Brad Battin vows to tighten bail laws in wake of horror Footscray crash
State opposition leader Brad Battin is vowing to tighten bail laws, in the wake of the latest tragedy on our roads.
A fugitive truck thief, who’d been on bail, is in hospital under police guard after an innocent driver was killed in a crash in Footscray yesterday.
Mr Battin, a former police officer, says the offender should never have been on the road.

With the next state election on November 28, 2026, Battin has stated “we’ll make sure he have a sitting of parliament in December, and we’ll introduce those laws in December”.
“If they’re a violent offender or continuous offenders, I don’t want sureties, I want them in remand so the community is safe,” he told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings.
Partner at major law firm, Thomson Geer Lawyers, Justin Quill, then explained the current bail laws and why it’s become so easy for offenders to be let back out into society.
