Obesity expert at Monash University, Professor Michael Cowley, has voiced his concerns surrounding injectables being used to treat weight loss in obese people.

Professor Cowley believes injectables can be successful for some people, but it does have side effects and a general practitioner (GP) needs to be the one to prescribe the injectable.

“I think drugs are an important part of how we treat diseases, but there are some situations where a drug is not appropriate,” Professor Cowley told Neil Mitchell.

“It really requires a GP’s judgement to determine what’s the best drug whether if drugs are appropriate at all.”
