New South Wales is (again) trying to poach The Logies from Melbourne.
The TV awards are held at Crown Melbourne each yeah but they could be heading north if New South Wales Tourism minister Adam Marshall gets his way.
And it’s a bold plan.
Destination NSW has lodged an expression of interest in the gala ceremony, wanting to hold it in regional cities between 2018 and 2020.
The cities named by Mr Marshall include Tamworth next year, then Dubbo or even Albury in the following years.
Mr Marshall says he wants to take the glitz and glamour of the Logies beyond the fringes of the city.
“The impact of hosting an event of this stature in regional NSW cannot be overlooked and this is no ambit claim. We’ve done our homework and taking the Logies to the bush represents more than double the value of hosting them in Sydney,” he said.
The event has the potential to pump huge tourist dollars into local economies.
