Northern Territory MP blasts state government inaction as crime wave sweeps Alice Springs
A Northern Territory MP fears it’ll take deaths for action to be taken to stop the crime wave in Alice Springs.
In the last 12 months, property offences have gone up by 60 per cent in Alice Springs and assaults are up 38 per cent.
Labor MP for Lingiari, Marion Scrymgour, says it won’t be long before someone is “seriously hurt”.

“The mayor of Alice Springs and myself, we’ve said to the Northern Territory government ‘Someone is going to get killed’,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“Are we going to wait until there’s a death before there’s any urgency put on this?”
Ms Scrymgour says alcohol abuse is fuelling the crime wave, and it’s time to stop “pussyfooting around the issue”.
