Nick Maxwell details the extraordinary turnaround at Collingwood
2010 Premiership captain Nick Maxwell has opened up on the changed culture at Collingwood this season.
Maxwell, who returned to the club at the end of 2017 in a newely-created role as Leadership and Culture Manager, empathised the importance of a relaxed working environment as one of the keys to success this year.
“It’s been a real focus for us,” he said on 3AW Football.
“It’s great to see Bucks have a big smile on his face instead of being too serious but I think that also comes with results and the fact he now knows what he’s going to get from his players.
“In the last couple of years, we weren’t always guaranteed to show up and play the way we actually have played this year.
“Win, lose or draw, he knows what he’s going to get from his boys and our supporters know what they’re going to get from them.
“I’m a big believer in getting the environment right – if everyone’s happy at work and works hard, it doesn’t feel like work, it feels like fun.”
