New lord mayor Nicholas Reece says bike lanes form an important part of Melbourne’s transport infrastructure, defending their use in the city.

When quizzed by 3AW’s Heidi Murphy about his position on the use of bike lanes in the CBD, Mr Reece says there has to be an acceptance that they were crucial to allow Melburnians to move around the city.

“Bike lanes are part of our transport system,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“I think we would all accept that bike lanes sit alongside pedestrians footpaths and roads and public transport, it all needs to come together.”
