New evidence sparks convicted murderer Jason Roberts’ petition for mercy
Convicted cop-killer Jason Roberts has won the right to return to court.
He is currently serving life in prison over the deaths of police officers Gary Silk and Rodney Miller.
Roberts has been pushing for a re-trial, which has been rejected in the past.
“A second petition of mercy came in at March this year, containing new evidence which wasn’t contained in the first petition which I rejected,” Attorney-General Martin Pakula told Tony Jones.
“It’s fundamentally evidence about Roberts’ whereabouts on the night of the murder and alibi evidence provided by Nicole Debs, (his former girlfriend).
“That’s being sent to the Chief Justice, the court will make an assessment on whether or not that evidence is credible.”
