Neil Mitchell’s view on protest planned for George Pell’s funeral
Neil Mitchell says plans for a protest at George Pell’s funeral in Sydney are “cruel” and “undignified”.
LGBT group, Community Action for Rainbow Rights, intends to march outside St Mary’s Cathedral during the service tomorrow.
“In my view it’s obscene to have a protest at a funeral — any funeral,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

The NSW Supreme Court will today rule on whether the protest is legal.
Protest organiser, April Holcombe, says the group intends to go ahead with the protest regardless of the court’s ruling.
“He (Pell) used a powerful position in society in a highly well-connected religious hierarchy to advance reactionary social causes that most people don’t agree with. And now the people who are determined to carry on his legacy, like Tony Abbott, are going to be at this funeral and we’re determined to send them a message,” April said.
