Neil Mitchell’s red hot tip on ‘horrifying’ incident at the Alfred Hospital

Neil Mitchell has received a tip on a concerning incident which unfolded at the Alfred Hospital overnight.

At 2:30am this morning, a man armed with a knife terrorised patients and staff at the hospital, which led to a code black being issued.

“It’s horrifying stuff,” he said on 3AW Afternoons.

“The staff are being counseled, the patients are being counseled,” the former 3AW Mornings host said.

“This is a real escalation in the problem.”

 

Alfred Health spokesperson:

“The safety of patients and staff was the priority when a Code Black response was called in The Alfred’s Emergency and Trauma Centre overnight.

Police immediately attended, and an individual was removed from the premises.

We are thankful that no patients or staff were injured during the incident, however violence and aggression towards healthcare workers is never acceptable.

While we provide ongoing safety training and education to support staff to recognise, prevent and respond to occupational violence and aggression, challenging and unexpected incidents can occur.

We are providing follow-up support to all staff and patients involved in last night’s incident.”
