Neil Mitchell says the Australian public deserves a full and public explanation from former prime minister Scott Morrison over his secret ministerial roles.

It’s emerged Mr Morrison secretly had himself sworn in as joint minister of three portfolios — health, finance and resources — and many within his own cabinet didn’t know.

Neil Mitchell says “it does look dodgy”.

“It probably isn’t, but it looks dodgy. There may be a good reason for it, but why the secrecy?,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

“The problems are: one, it was secret — which is rightly seen as an insult to our democracy.

“Two, why keep it from your own cabinet?

“Three, has it compromised any decisions? Any projects which could now be found to be technically illegal? I doubt that, but it now needs to be addressed.

“Mr Morrison was trusted by the Australian people, he’s got to recognise that privilege. We deserve a full, public explanation of what happened and why.”
