Neil Mitchell takes aim at ‘obscene’ federal decision on Victorian infrastructure
At least $900 million in infrastructure projects promised by the Morrison government are being axed by Labor in the budget, but funding for the Suburban Rail Loop will go ahead.
The removal of the Glenferrie Road level crossing, the Wellington Road duplication, and the rail link between Monash University’s Caulfield and Clayton campuses are among the projects set to be ditched, while the Labor government will contribute $2.2bn for the Suburban Rail Loop.
Neil Mitchell says it’s an “obscene” situation.

“It is throwing money at a white elephant, and what hurts is it’s our money!,” he said.
“Our own auditor says it’s a white elephant. It hasn’t been independently assessed by Infrastructure Australia. This rail loop is a political stunt and Albo is funding the start of it.”
