Neil Mitchell speaks with helicopter hero about flood rescues in Queensland and NSW
One of the helicopter heroes who has helped saved multiple lives with air rescues in the Queensland and NSW floods says the last week has been hard to comprehend.
Sergeant Damien Collison-Bryant is an Aircrewman Instructor with MRH90 helicopters at the Army Aviation Training Centre.
He’s helped operate the hoist in multiple rescues, as well as go down on the wire himself, cutting one couple out of the roof of their home and winching them to safety.
Sergeant Collison-Bryant said the “look” on the faces of those being rescued stayed with him.
“They’re overwhelmed by the situation they’re in,” he said.
“They look back down on their property and their heart breaks.”
