One-in-eight people in the world watched the Shane Warne memorial at the MCG last night, according to British media estimates.

An estimated one billion people watched the touching musical tributes, and the brave speeches from Warne’s children.

Neil Mitchell says it as “one of the best things this city has ever hosted”.

“It resisted the temptation to be maudlin, it was the right amount of warmth, emotion, humour, respect,” he said.

“Melbourne was proud of Shane Warne. Melbourne should be proud of itself and the people who put that together.”
