Neil Mitchell says David Davis ‘insulted good people’ by getting drunk at gala event
Neil Mitchell says Shadow Treasurer David Davis “insulted good people” by drinking too much at a gala event on Saturday night.
Mr Davis is claimed to have fallen down drunk, and made people feel uncomfortable by not respecting their personal space at the Victorian Multicultural Commission dinner at the Convention Centre, and had to be convinced by party colleagues to leave.
The MP has admitted his behaviour was not acceptable, and said he’s “deeply remorseful”.
Neil Mitchell says he should “consider just what he did wrong”.
“The real point is this: that dinner is a very formal black tie event. It is extremely important to the multicultural community,” the 3AW Mornings host said.
“Many in that community are impressed by that opportunity to meet these community leaders and talk to them, so imagine how these people felt … good, average voting Victorians … when they found one of the important guests was behaving like a drunken yobbo.
“I would hope he would consider just what he did wrong.
“He’s embarrassed himself, yes, he embarrassed his party, yes, but he insulted good people who would have been really excited to meet him until they did.”
