Neil Mitchell learns of awful situation surrounding five-year-old girl, highlighting crisis in Victorian health care
Victoria’s health system is in crisis, with a frustrated Neil Mitchell unearthing yet another example of a potentially life-threatening situation not being adequately handled due to a lack of beds and suitable treatment.
The 3AW Mornings host has continually flagged issues with the health system but says they’ve been dismissed by government.
On Thursday, he was told about a woman who’d developed gangrene because she couldn’t get treated and now had to wait until next week to have the issue dealt with.
Today, former Liberal MP John Vogels, who finished in politics in 2010, told Neil Mitchell about his sister’s granddaughter.
The five-year-old girl was taken to hospital complaining of stomach pain but was not scanned, despite repeated requests from her mother.
They returned home.
Her appendix has since burst.
Despite the urgent need for surgery, she cannot get a bed at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“She’s now very sick,” Mr Vogels told Neil Mitchell.
