Neil Mitchell has called out Daniel Andrews after the Premier denied he’s gagged Victoria’s Chief Health Officer from being interviewed.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, the Premier was asked whether public messaging about the COVID pandemic was needed from Brett Sutton, with the government announcing another 40 deaths.

The Premier said he had no issue with Professor Sutton speaking publicly, but several reporters all pointed out their media requests to speak with the CHO had been routinely denied by the Premier’s media team.

Neil Mitchell’s program has faced the same issue.

“I’m told he is quite happy to do it (but) the Department of Health won’t allow it because Brett Sutton has this unfortunate habit of telling the truth,” Neil Mitchell said.

“They won’t let him do it because he is too honest and he embarrasses government by telling the truth – heaven knows – we’ve got the truth in the middle of a dangerous pandemic!”
