Neil Mitchell fires back at Archbishop over his comments on the role of the media
Neil Mitchell has fired back at Melbourne’s Anglican Archbishop over his comments on the role of the media.
Archbishop Philip Freier released a statement on Thursday blaming “poor media reporting” for stigmatising the Sudanese-Australian community.
But Neil said he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
“With due respect to the Archbishop, he would not know what is good media reporting and what is poor media reporting,” Neil said.
“When you have gangs – black, white, yellow, green, whatever – rampaging through the streets, it has to be reported.
“If you keep blaming the messenger, you don’t fix the problem.
“Don’t go and say ‘it’s all the imagination of the media’ – it is not. Ask a victim.
“I would think the Anglican Ministry should be equally concerned with the victims.”
