Neil Mitchell and Kevin Rudd clash over media conspiracy theory
Neil Mitchell and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have clashed over Rupert Murdoch’s influence on Australian democracy.
Rudd has released a new book, in which he makes a less than flattering assessment of the media mogul.
Rudd said he believed there was an orchestrated campaign, at Murdoch’s direction, to bring his government down because of an NBN policy that would have heavily impacted the profitability of Foxtel in Australia.
Neil Mitchell: “You’ve described Rupert Murdoch as being a malignant cancer on Australian democracy.”
Kevin Rudd: “That’s correct.”
Neil Mitchell: “What evidence do you have that he has misused his power for commercial reasons?”
A fiery debate ensued about Australia’s media landscape.

Rudd also shared his views on Bill Shorten likely becoming Prime Minister, as well as why Beyond Blue had made a mistake appointing Julia Gillard chair.
“Frankly, it’s a breach of professional standards. You don’t do that sort of thing.”
