Mother of a prisoner says new prison visitation rules could lead to a riot
The mother of a prisoner says new visitation rules could have dire consequences.
The rules, brought about in part because of a riot in June, state that prisoners must make visitation bookings, and they need to be made 36 hours in advance.
Vicky, the mother of a prisoner, was unable to visit her son on Christmas due to the new rules.
‘I don’t believe it’s working,’ she told Nick McCallum on Monday.
‘It’s going to end up, the same as the smoke ban, in some sort of a riot – whether it be inside or outside.’
Earlier in December, Premier Daniel Andrews told 3AW he is determined never to have a repeat of June’s riot.
