More strikes as negotiations stall in Cleanaway EBA
Cleanaway workers involved in commercial and industrial rubbish collection are rallying in Tullamarine as negotiations over a new enterprise bargaining agreement continue to stall.
The Transport Workers Union wants the wording of the agreement changed, claiming the company has “sort to adjust the document without consultation or proper bargaining”.
Workers commenced a stop-work action at 10am on Thursday, with another two hour strike set for Tuesday at 10am.
Branch Secretary Transport Workers Union Victoria & Tasmania, Mike McNess, said the two parties are still some way apart.
“We had some discussions this morning, there was a little bit of movement from the company,” he told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings.
“Unfortunately what we need when we get these commitments, or movement, from Cleanaway, is to get it in writing.
“Once that request was put on the table, we got a rather hostile reaction, and it certainly was enough for the action to continue this morning.
“They weren’t prepared to make that commitment.”
