‘More dangerous’: The call for the increasing number of SUVs and utes to be addressed
There are calls to address the increasing number of utes and SUVs on the road, with claims they’re “more dangerous” for others, unsuitable for inner city driving and are accelerating the wear and tear on the roads.
Last month 57 per cent of new car sales were SUVs, and only 17 per cent were standard passenger cars.
Peter Martin from the Australian National University says their perceived safety is a major factor, but that doesn’t take into account others on the road.
