‘Miracle’ methane-slashing pill for cows hits market
A ‘miracle pill’ that stops cattle from burping and farting has gone on sale after years in development.
The pill, which is made from seaweed-based materials, will help slash greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector.
The pill can cut the methane emissions of cows by up to 90 per cent.
Mission director at the CSIRO’s Towards Net Zero, Dr Michael Battaglia, says the pill may also help livestock grow more quickly.
“By getting lots of livestock taking that we can help them not only reduce their methane but potentially grow faster,” Dr Battaglia said.
“The methane they’re producing is wasted energy.”
