Melbourne researchers have made an incredible discovery which could mean we never have to worry about our phones going flat again!

Scientists from Monash University have discovered an enzyme produced in a bacteria found in soil can convert hydrogen in the air into electricity.

Press PLAY below for an explanation on how it works

Lab head in the department of microbiology at Monash University, Dr Rhys Grinter, says it’s “fair dinkum”.

“The kind of devices we’d be able to power from the air — they can’t use a lot of power. The kind of applications we’re thinking about are biometric monitors, sensors, clocks and small computer chips,” he told Ross and Russel.

“Incredibly useful stuff could be powered by air.”
