Scientists from The Florey in Melbourne are among an international team which has identified a genetic flag for multiple sclerosis (MS).

A study of 22,000 people with MS has revealed a genetic marker that’s associated with disease severity for the first time.

Head of The Florey’s neurogenetics group, Associate Professor Justin Rubio, says it appears MS susceptibility is “really to do with the immune system”, but severity is “all to do with genes in the brain”.
