Melbourne school to vote on whether to change the name of one of its houses

A Melbourne school will this week host a school-wide referendum on whether to change the name of one if its houses.

From Friday, all Melbourne Girls Grammar students in years 4 to 12, and all alumnae, will be invited to vote on whether to rename Batman House.

It comes after the Melbourne Girls Grammar school captains made a presentation to the school council questioning whether naming the house after John Batman was appropriate in 2021.

The result of the referendum will be publicised next Monday.
