UPDATE: A Melbourne man has had a win after contacting Neil Mitchell about an airline decision that was going leave him $20,000 out of pocket.

Paul Vella’s daughters gifted him a business class ticket to Europe for his 70th birthday, which he intended to use in April 2020.

When COVID-19 hit those plans had to be cancelled.

He rescheduled the flight online once and those plans were also disrupted by COVID-19.

Mr Vella rescheduled a second time at a cost of $200, with Singapore Airlines advising him he could book up to 12 months into the future and suggesting he book as late as possible because of the uncertain pandemic situation, and then rebook closer to that flight date with a date that suited him. He followed the advice, booking for August 2022.

He dislikes the hot weather and never wanted to travel in the European summer, but when Mr Vella called to rebook for October he was advised his ticket will be refunded and he’d need to purchase a new ticket.

That ticket was going to cost $20,000 more than the original ticket purchased.

But after contacting Neil Mitchell’s program, the airline caved.

“They changed the ticket to October 11 and no charge,” a delighted Mr Vella told Neil Mitchell.
