Melbourne great David Schwarz says he’s disappointed the Demons suspended Steven May for drinking alcohol while he was meant to be following concussion protocols and getting into a fight with teammate Jake Melksham.

The star defender will miss Monday’s crucial Queen’s Birthday clash with Collingwood as a result of his actions.

A “lighthearted disagreement” between May and Melksham escalated at a Prahran restaurant on Sunday night.

May was handed a one-game ban by the club.

Speaking in his weekly segment on 3AW Drive, Schwarz said Melbourne fans and May’s teammates were the losers from that outcome.

“I’d rather him cop a $20,000 fine, which impacts him directly, than something that impacts the fans,” he said.
