Melbourne great accuses Joel Smith of ‘taking the piss’ out of AFL system

David Schwarz says Joel Smith is “taking the piss out of the system” as drugs allegations against him continue to pile up.

Smith remains provisionally suspended from the AFL for a match day positive cocaine test, while allegations of drug trafficking have also now be levelled against him.

The Melbourne legend says the situation Smith finds himself in should serve as a warning to others in the competition.

“When players take the piss out of the system and they take the easy option, they’re going to pay the ultimate price,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.

“This should be a warning for every other club – if you think you can get away it, it’s not worth it.”
