As the cost-of-living crisis continues, an inner-Melbourne council will consider establishing an emergency fund for struggling renters.

The City of Yarra is looking to set up a fund of $100,000, which would allow renters on any form of concession card to apply to the council for rent assistance.

The plan has the backing of three independent councillors and will go before the council on June 19.

Councillor Stephen Jolly, who supports the plan, says the $100,000 to fund it could come from the council’s media, branding and marketing department.
