Melbourne Buddhist temple destroyed by fire
Fire investigators are probing the cause of a blaze that has destroyed Melbourne’s largest Buddhist temple.
More than 40 firefighting vehicles from the CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria crews rushed to the Bright Moon Temple on Springvale Road at about 8pm last night.
A small fire quickly spread to engulf the ornate two-storey timber building, with flames reaching up to 100 metres into the air.
About 80 firefighters were in attendance.
Residents from nearby townhouses were evacuated and thick smoke prompted a watch and act alert.
