Melbourne Airport’s message to travellers ahead of ‘quite unbelievable’ Easter period
Melbourne Airport has warned Victorians to be prepared for delays at the airport over the Easter holiday period.
Staff shortages at the airport, paired with an expected demand greater than that in the pre-pandemic period, are behind the warnings.
Head of aviation at Melbourne Airport, Lorie Argus, says the airport is “going to get to 110 per cent domestic travel, which is quite unbelievable really”.
“Easter is definitely a very busy period for us but what we’re actually seeing is this Easter is going to be bigger than pre-COVID,” she told Stephen Quartermain and Emily Power, filling in for Ross and Russel.
People flying out from Melbourne Airport during the holiday period are urged to arrive early.
“We’re saying two hours for domestic and three hours for international, obviously if you’re travelling for international and you need a PCR test we recommend you come even earlier,” Ms Argus said.
“We’re all feeling the pinch of staff shortages.”
