Matthew Richardson fires back at Gold Coast chairman’s crack at Tasmania
Matthew Richardson has defended his home state of Tasmania in the wake of criticism from the Suns.
Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane took aim at Tasmania, which has long pined for a footy team of its own.
Cochrane said the Gold Coast is a better location for a team.
‘The only thing Tasmania has over the Gold Coast is unemployment,’ Cochrane said.
Armed with a clipboard of figures, Richo hit back on 3AW Sunday Football.
‘That’s a big call, Tony, especially when it’s wrong,’ he said.
‘Queensland’s unemployment rate at the moment is 6.4%, and Tasmania is 5.8%.
‘I’ll tell you one other thing: I’d rather go to MONA (Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art) and watch a band than go down Cavill avenue.’
