Matthew Lloyd believes the last five weeks of the season will dictate whether Essendon has truly improved in 2024.

After a strong start to the season, the Bombers are now clinging onto their position in the top eight after losing five of their last seven games.

Lloyd told Wide World of Sports there was “bad panic” among Essendon’s defenders in their loss to Adelaide, saying the coming month would speak volumes about the club’s improvement.

“There was bad panic in defence in the second quarter but there’s still time to turn it around,” Lloyd said on 3AW.

“We’ll find out if they’re leap and bounds ahead of last year by how the last five weeks goes.”
