Matthew Lloyd on why Jake Melksham wants to join Melbourne

Jake Melksham’s relationship with Melbourne coach-elect Simon Goodwin would be a major factor in the midfielder’s decision to seek a move to the Demons, says Essendon great Matthew Lloyd.

Melksham, 24, has requested a trade this off-season, with Melbourne his most likely suitor.

Lloyd said there were two major reasons for that.

‘Simon Goodwin is a big fan of Jake Melksham, through his time at the Essendon footy club,’ Lloyd revealed on 3AW Football.

‘They had a good relationship and he’s decided that he’s going to go and play at the club Simon’s going to be the coach of.

‘And they’ve offered him a financial offer Essendon wouldn’t match, I wouldn’t have thought.

‘So it’s a big leap of faith.’
