3AW Football’s Matthew Lloyd and Jimmy Bartel say the controversial deliberate decision that cost Richmond a late goal was the right call.

Jayden Short was penalised for rushing the ball over the goal line after long chase alongside Essendon forward Josh Green.

The decision prompted anger from Richmond fans and even some ridicule from Essendon fans.

But Bartel and Lloydy gave it the thumbs up.

LLOYDY: I like that that’s been paid, to be honest, Beva.

JIMMY: They want you to make every attempt to keep the ball in play, and he didn’t. He just shovelled it through. You’ve got to at least try to keep the ball in play, be a bit smart about it. Greene played it smart.
