Machetes have been spotted being sold at Laverton Market again, just two weeks after caller Shelly called in with a drive time tip, detailing her shock at the discovery.

The state government has since passed laws to ban machetes, but they don’t come into effect until September, leaving 3AW Drive host Jacqui Felgate frustrated.

“If the Labor government truly believes in banning machetes, why is it going to take six months to do it?” she said.

“I completely agree with the path that’s getting taken, but there’s a lot more that needs to be done with some of these other measures as well,” security expert Scott Taylor said on 3AW Drive.

“We need to be tougher across the board.”
