Mark Evans responds to the outcry over high-tackle free kicks
The AFL has responded to the outcry over high tackle free kicks.
Several free kicks were paid after players dropped their knees to attract high contact on Friday night, with much of the focus on Lindsay Thomas.
But Football Operations Manager Mark Evans told 3AW Football the AFL is trying to strike a balance between ball-carriers and tacklers.
‘I’m not in favour of doing anything that incentivises a tackler to take less responsibility in a tackle,’ Evans said on Saturday.
‘You still can’t bring in a system that allows an indiscriminate, sloppy, vigorous tackle to the head.’
Evans also spoke about the possibility of a send-off system in the AFL.
Evans: ‘Having to implement red cards, I get concerns for two similar incidents that have different outcomes. How would that play out?’
