Victoria Police released the following statement regarding the incident:

A man has been charged after an alleged attempted robbery in Brunswick on Tuesday, 11 July.

Investigators have been told a 50-year-old man was inside a parked vehicle on Barkly Street when he was approached by a man who demanded his wallet about 3.15pm.

When the demands were refused, the 50-year-old exited the car and was allegedly attacked.

He sustained a slash wound to his hand and was also allegedly bitten on the leg but managed to get away from the other man who was chasing him with an angle grinder.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Responding police arrested a 35-year-old Wyndham North man nearby the scene.

He has since been charged with 10 offences including recklessly cause injury, assault with intent to rob, affray and property offences.

He was remanded to face Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today.
