A man has been mauled by a kangaroo in Australia’s first fatal kangaroo attack since 1936.

The 77-year-old was keeping the young kangaroo as a pet at his property near Albany in WA.

A family member found the man with serious injuries on Sunday afternoon and called an ambulance, but when paramedics arrived the aggressive roo prevented them from getting close enough to the man to render assistance.

He died at the scene.

Police shot and killed the animal.
