A man has been charged over the death of his close friend near Geelong on Saturday night.

Justin Willman — a 52-year-old father of two — died after being struck by a vehicle in a paddock at Stonehaven, west of Geelong at about 9.30pm on Saturday.

The alleged driver, a 42-year-old man, has been charged with culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death and is due to face court in Geelong today.

Aerial footage of the scene shows an extinguished bonfire surrounded by camp chairs, beer bottles and multiple tyre tracks across the paddock.

The family of the alleged driver say the pair had been friends for more than 20 years and while they don’t know exactly what happened on Saturday night, they believe it was an accident.
