Victoria Police have released the following statement:

An unmarked police car attempted to intercept a suspicious black BMW station wagon on Hopkins Street at about 4am.

The BMW was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road before conducting a U-turn and colliding front on with the police vehicle.

A 34-year-old Footscray man was arrested at the scene and will be interviewed.

Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the collision.
