Man armed with knife shot dead by police in Melbourne’s west

A man has died after being shot by police in Footscray last night.

Officers were called to Albert Street to reports of a man armed with a knife at around 9pm.

Two police officers found the man and told him to drop the weapon, but he charged at them still armed with the knife, and was shot by both officers.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
